\nSkills Canada – Ontario is a local not-for-profit organization that promo
tes skilled trades and technologies as a viable, first choice career optio
ns for youth. You will be hearing a lot more about this organization in the
coming months, along with the provincial and national skilled trade compe
titions they will be hosting at RIM Park in May. \n\nOn the evening of Frid
ay, March 5th, 2010, Skills Canada-Ontario will be holding their annual
Fundraising Gala in the Ballroom at Bingemans in Kitchener. \n\nProceeds fr
om this wonderful evening support the Skills Canada – Ontario Bursary. This
bursary provides financial assistance to student competitors, such as pas
t competitor, local auto service technician Dan Van Holst, who compete at
the Canadian Skills Competition. Dan won gold in his event and went on to
represent Canada at the WorldSkills Competition bringing home a Medallion o
f Excellence. This bursary will provide financial assistance to 65 students
just like Dan vying to be best in their contest… from Carpentry to Culinar
y Arts and from Welding to Webpage Design.\n\nThe evening also honours the
late Klaus Woerner, President and CEO of ATS, Automation Tooling Systems
Inc. As a tribute, Skills Canada – Ontario presents the Klaus Woerner Skil
led Trades Hall of Fame Award annually to recognize people who have made si
gnificant contributions to the advancement of skilled trades and technologi
es. \n\nCome out and enjoy a Friday evening of fabulous food, dance the ni
ght away with music provided by Amplified Midlife Crisis and perhaps take h
ome some great items from an outstanding silent auction supported by many o
